The officer who pulled over Houston RB Ryan Moats and his wife last week, while they were trying to get to a sick relative, has resigned today.
The officer pulled the running back over in the parking lot of the hospital after he ran through a stop sign. Moats did so because his mother in law had minutes to live and they were trying to get to her side. The officer very rudely detained them and did not allow them to get into the hospital, not caring in the least to their pleas to get into the hospital.
The officer did later let the wife go in to be with her mother, but by the time Ryan made it in, she was already gone.
The officer had made a public apology, which the Moats accepted, but had not yet spoken directly to the couple. It was being decided on what exactly they would do to the officer, the resignation should come as a sign on where it was going.
As far as I am concerned I am glad to see it happen. Police officials need to do what they need to do in order to enforce the law and make sure every civilian is as safe as possible, but after seeing the video of this incident, it was clear that wasn't the case this time. The officer was being power hungry and didn't care what they or the other officer that came in later, had to say. He was also very rude and said things that were no necessary.
He also didn't look sincere in his apology, almost with a smile on his face. He did cry out that he had a family and couldn't lose his job, but where was this compassion to Moats and his wife? There was none, so sorry officer, you get the very same treatment.
Your gone. Don't let the doorknob hit you on the ass on the way out.
What do you guys think? Was the resignation to harsh? Should he have been flat out fired? How could the situation have been avoided? Let us know, sign up to the board and join in the discussion know!
